Julie Stone

Dear Parents,

I am so sad that the year has ended this way.  Please let your child know that I miss them and I am looking forward to this quarantine ending and being able to see and hug them again.  Please let your child know that I am doing my best to stay safe and that I hope they are doing the same.

I have made a little packet of the spelling words and vocabulary that we would have been practicing each week and a “Choice Board” with different activities (let your child choose 2 or 3 boxes a week to complete) to practice the spelling/vocabulary words.  I also included a “Home Learning Menu” that has some creative way to practice reading and writing (again let your child choose and 2 or 3 boxes a week is plenty).  Hopefully these will fun and creative ways to practice reading, writing, and vocabulary.

I am also sending home the Readers Notebook and a Cloze Reader workbook.  You and your child may work through the books at your own pace and complete some or all of the pages. Some of the pages will require reading a story.  I cannot copy the story due to copywrite laws, but I can send a link through Google Classroom that your child may use to access the story. The link can also be found under Education Websites tab on the Ripley Web page.   If you do not have internet then please don’t worry about those pages.

Due to the current crisis we are able to provide the link to take AR test from home.  I hope that many of you will take this opportunity to continue to work to reach your AR goal or the personal goal that you set for yourself.  Please follow the link and then enter your username and password.

While libraries are closed there are several websites that your child may access online for free books, to read to continue working toward their AR goal.  Please message me if you need help accessing these sites.

I believe that all 3 of these websites have books that your student may read along with if needed.

Parents I know this is a very stressful time and I do not want to add to that stress with a heavy workload.  I have tried to provide some fun activities to help your child continue to learn.  Please know that the most important things you can do is spend quality time with your child and make sure that your child reads every day all summer long, not just during these 5 weeks.   Also, if you have internet access your child may also continue to work on IXL and Moby Max all summer.   Learning can come in many forms. It may be learning to cook by reading a cookbook, gardening by reading the planting directions on the packages, or even learning to fix something that is broken by reading the manual.

I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers as we go through this tough time.  Please stay safe and as always if you have any questions or concerns please send me an email at stonej@ripley.k12.ok.us or a message me on remind.  I will do my best to get you an answer.
